Or are you simply blogging because you want to pen down your ideas on a plethora of topics and share with others? Then, do that.

Whichever category you fall in, know what you are doing. Think about where you see your blog a few years down the line, and the kind of response you’d want. Then move on to designing, writing and promoting your blog accordingly.

There Is No Escaping RESEARCH!

The one thing you can do to help your blog grow is study bigger blogs of the same genre. Observe what you like in their blogs and what you don’t – you’ll get a general idea of what your own content strategy should be like. It is never too late to learn.

Umm, Who Are You Addressing?

Your blog’s design and content should reflect the expectations of the audience you are addressing. You couldn’t possibly be a hit when you write about baby products the baby way (I mean writing style) when the ones coming across your posts are hardcore marketing professionals. See what I mean? Set your target audience – are they teenagers, casuals or professionals? And then create content keeping them in mind. Don’t confuse your readers, rather meet and exceed their expectations. This will help you gain reader loyalty.

Stand Out Pal!

There are millions of bloggers out there and, let’s be honest, the chances of getting lost in the crowd are pretty high. Whatever you choose to blog about, there are probably already a zillion other blogs on the same topic.

So when you decide to write on a certain topic, make sure you spend some time researching on blogs that offer content similar to yours. Come up with ideas that make you different – twist and turn your blog into something that no one has seen before. Invite monthly submission of articles related to your genre from your readers- it’s a great way to gather interest!

Write Like You Talk!

Don’t get all paranoid about the fact that your post is going to have a large audience and they might not like your tone. Personally, I love reading blogs that showcase the personality of the author. Such posts are more engaging and easier to read. Whatever you write, let your personality shine through!

Remember: It isn’t just about making your readers connect to your content, it’s about making them connect to YOU!

All those formats available are really alluring, but C’mon! No one wants to see you fluctuate from font to font in rainbow colors. I have spent a decent amount of my time blogging and I have come to one conclusion: making a circus of colors and fonts in one post will lead you nowhere. Your readers will read only those articles that are pleasing to the eye and easy to read and comprehend. So keep variations to the minimum. Using font variations to highlight heading and sub headings is a good idea. But keep one thing in mind:the easier your blog is on the reader’s brain, the more popular it is.

The Consistent Blogger.

Be consistent with your blog posts. I know it takes time to create one awesome post, but don’t space out too much between two posts. If you post one today and then decide to disappear for a month, you’ll see your followers disappearing too. (Really quick!)

Will You Read It?

Write what YOU would read. Don’t just create a fancy title and make the rest of the content stinky! That’s bad marketing. BAD! (in that very ‘capital-bold’ manner). The Internet and magazines are full of the ‘obvious’, make your blog stand out with FANTABULOUSLY helpful content.
