Causes of Grey Hair and Some Treatments

Grey hair is a condition that often affects people and they are left wondering exactly why it happens. This is a symptom of absolutely improper synthesis of protein. With the white hair that grows the person begins to feel old and thus grey hair is often a deterrent for the person and he tries ways and means to ensure he is devoid of this problem. Hair becomes white when the pigment melanin ceases to exist in the hair follicles. There are small air spaces in the place where the melanin used to exist.

s are found at the base of each follicle of hair and this is what produces the natural colour of the hair and thus makes the person look young. But as a person grows older these pigment cells die and also lose colour. So the result is that they have more of grey hair and less of their original hair colour. The cuticle is the outer layer of the hair and it has flat cells that overlap against each other. Below this is the thick cortex which has the keratin substance. The inner portion of the hair is made of rectangular soft cells. Thus the hair colour is totally determined by the amount of melanin in the cells. So if the person is blond then the melanin content is very less and if the person has black hair the melanin content is more. Melanin is produced by melanocytes which die as a person grows old.

In some we see that the person is young, yet has grey hair. This normally occurs due to heredity and it is only a matter of situational occurrence. Then there are other factors like worry, malnutrition and shock or tension and sorrow which cause the hair to turn white due to lesser secretion of melanin which is affected due to the emotional condition.

It is a myth that pulling out one grey hair would lead to two grey hairs growing instantly. This is because when you pull out one grey hair then another just would have started growing and when the hair is pulled out there is more space for the other two hair to be visible.

If one wants to treat grey hair then one can resort to home remedies like massaging a paste of gooseberry or amla on the scalp which has worked wonders over a period of time with people. It is said to reverse the process of greying or Damp Hair.

Then it is a good idea to massage hair with coconut oil and lemon for at least some time. People have had black hair even up to the age of sixty by using this process.

Ritha or shikakai seeds are very good for the hair. Soak around 10 to 12 rithas and some shikakai pods in water overnight. Boil it the next day and strain and used this as a shampoo for the hair. Or else soak around 15 amlas in half a cup of water and next morning strain it and use as a conditioner. Leave it for around 15 minutes and then wash hair.

It not only stops hair fall but also prevents greying of hair.

A mixture of castor oil and limejuice should be beaten till it is frothy. Then add henna to it and apply this mixture in the scalp. Wash hair after an hour and use Ritha and shikakai shampoo. This prevents hair greying.

Strong black tea added to salt and strained and then massaged on hair roots and left for an hour is a conditioner for hair. But after this hair should not be shampooed.

Not only should greying be understood but also treated well so that you don’t feel you have grown old at a very young age. Don’t use too much conditioner as this tends to make the hair look greasy. Massaging hair with your fingertips always helps as it circulates blood in the scalp.
